8 years ago, Lieberman was the Vice Presidential nominee of the Democratic party. If not for some hanging chads and interference by the Supreme Court, he would have become the Vice President.
Then he became an Independent.
Lieberman has become close to McCain in ideology that the latter was ready to pick him as his Vice Presidential nominee. Imagine, in 8 years you go from VP nominee of Democratic party to VP nominee of Republican party! Only the outrage from the sizable anti-abortion contingent in the Republican party — Lieberman supports abortion rights — forced McCain to abandon this idea. Lieberman did however give a speech at the Republican convention.
What party will Lieberman pick next? If Obama wins the Presidency, it will be the AARP. I hear that the post of vice-president is open. 🙂
